According to the Glasgow Evening Times, Celtic are keeping tabs on Hellas Verona defender Pawel Dawidowicz, as they look to strengthen their defence following Jozo Simunovic leaving the club whilst Kristoffer Ajer could potentially depart.
The 25 year-old centre-back is 6’2″, and has featured in 14 games this season, being part of a defence which has picked up five clean sheets whilst he has also scored a goal along the way, per Transfermarkt.
Would Pawel Dawidowicz be a worthwhile signing?
With Simunovic’s contract at the Hoops expiring at the weekend, per Celtic FC, whilst highly rated Ajer looks set to leave the club following the recent news suggesting the board are happy for him to go for £2o million, via Football Insider, the team could be left with only three centre-backs and so they will need to strengthen that position sooner rather than later.
The Polish international has managed on average 1.1 tackles per game and 1.8 clearances per game in the Serie A, via Whoscored, which highlights that he is a solid enough centre-back to cover the position and come into the starting eleven if called upon.
On Transfermarkt, he is currently valued at £1.4 million, so he would only use up a slither of the possible Ajer fee if he is sold, meaning the club could utilise the money on other positions as well.
It will be hard to replace Ajer, and Dawidowicz is possibly not the replacement for the Norwegian, however he could be the ideal replacement for Jozo Simunovic to help keep the Celts squad as strong as it has been for next season.
