It seems like Celtic are struggling to pursue current loanee Mohammed Elyounoussi on a permanent transfer in the summer as recent reports are suggesting they cannot agree on a fee with Southampton.
According to Football Insider, the Hoops will only look to acquire the winger if the Saints lower their valuation of the player. The Premier League side currently want £8-10 million for Elyounoussi and clearly Celtic are not happy with this price.
The Norwegian’s debut campaign in Scotland has been disturbed with a foot injury, but in the 20 appearances he has made, per Transfermarkt, he has provided 13 goal contributions as he has picked up seven goals and six assists in all competitions, including four strikes and two assists in 10 league games.
Is Elyounoussi worth £8-10 million?
This is a really impressive tally to have and it is clear to see why the Bhoys are interested in signing him perfectly, they certainly should look to complete a deal for the Norway international if they can.
It would obviously be good business if they can lower the price so that they can get a better bargain, but the fact is that they know Elyounoussi can perform well for them. Paying a couple of million more for someone they know suits the side seems like a no brainer.
Even though he did have an injury, it doesn’t seem to be a recurring one as it was just a foot injury, and his injury history before playing for the Scottish side is not one to raise any eyebrows as he has only missed five games for FC Basel in the past, per Transfermarkt.
It is in the interest of both Elyounoussi and Celtic to complete this deal, and hopefully a deal can be agreed so the fans can see the attacker return to the side for what will be a vital campaign for the Hoops next year as they bid to win a 10th league title in a row.
