Darren Bent has been lauding Leigh Griffiths in an exclusive interview with Football Insider.
Griffiths has been in and out of the Celtic side this season having suffered a hamstring injury early in the campaign. He has featured in just 21 of the 30 Scottish Premiership fixtures for the Hoops, scoring nine goals and assisting a further four in the process (via Transfermarkt).
However, Bent seemingly believes he is worthy of praise and during his sit down with assistant editor Russell Edge, claimed the Scotland international hasn’t got the credit he deserves.
The former Sunderland forward said: “He’s been absolutely brilliant, to be fair, scoring that hat trick. He always used to score goals for them but for whatever reason he doesn’t get the credit he probably feels he deserves. It’s a bit of a strange one – actually it’s a very strange one – but all he can keep doing is do the business.” (Source: Football Insider)
To say the £1.8m-rated, as per Transfermarkt, Griffiths is an important player for the Celtic Park outfit is something of an understatement. He has had a big impact on the side’s trophy-laden escapades since he joined the club in the winter of 2014, scoring 115 goals and contributing 49 assists in just 234 games across all competitions (via Transfermarkt).
He’s proved such a pivotal figure this year with Neil Lennon’s team averaging just under three points per Scottish Premiership game he’s featured in, an outstanding return showing his importance to the side. As a matter of fact, Griffiths’ nine strikes this season have come in just 879 minutes, showing his incredible potency in the final third.
The Scotsman has also shown he has the strength to stand up to any problems that may come his way. In December 2018, he took a break from football after suffering from depression, however, soon made a swift return in July 2019, showing unbelievable levels of mental strength.
