Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull is reportedly “desperate” to secure a move to Scottish champions Celtic in the January transfer window.
Football Insider claimed that the 20-year-old is very keen on joining the Hoops, having seen a proposed transfer during the summer transfer window fall through because of medical concerns.
Earlier this week, Football Insider had reported that a medical at Celtic uncovered a knee problem which required him to undergo surgery, with the club maintaining an interest in signing him once he has completed his rehabilitation.
Turnbull’s latest admission indicates that he has his eyes firmly fixed on securing his move to Celtic, with the 20-year-old having already turned down the advances of English Premier League club Norwich in favour of the Hoops, as reported by Football Insider.
He was a highly prolific presence at the centre of midfield for Motherwell last season, with 15 goals and six assists in their Premiership campaign, and he finished the campaign in excellent form with six goals in their final five matches after the end-of-season split.
Neil Lennon already has some attacking midfield options with a fearsome goal threat, however, with Ryan Christie the Hoops’ top scorer this term on 11 goals and Callum McGregor scoring three times, their combined total of 14 goals is just three behind the pair’s entire tally from last season.
While Celtic already have a considerable goal threat from midfield, they have played 20 matches already this season and could continue to have a hectic schedule if they again go far in domestic cup competitions (they are chasing a fourth consecutive domestic treble) and build on their positive start in the Europa League.
That could test Lennon’s squad depth later in the season, and with Turnbull proving he can score plenty of goals in the Premiership and hugely keen on moving to the club, his potential signing would appear to be in the best interest of both him and Celtic.
