Celtic: Fans far from pleased with Scott Brown after CFR Cluj defeat

Celtic are out of the Champions League for another season and one man who will likely want to forget last night’s defeat to CFR Cluj quickly is captain Scott Brown.

With Celtic leading the match 2-1 and the tie 3-2 going into the final 15 minutes of the game, the midfielder handled the ball from a CFR Cluj corner and gave away a penalty from which Billel Omrani scored. [via BBC]

Brown’s night got worse after the match when he ‘liked’ a tweet in which he was tagged that castigated Neil Lennon’s tactics and team selection, as reported by Football Scotland.

Upon realising the consequences of that action, the 34-year-old used his own Twitter account to set the record straight.

Brown came in for some less than celebratory assessments for his performance against CFR Cluj. Ryan Brown of Read Celtic gave him a rating of just four and said: “If his handball was deliberate then it’s utterly inexcusable from the captain.”

For 67hailhail.com, Hamish Carton awarded him a lowly rating of three, saying that he “looked off the pace for a lot of the match”.
