Plenty of Celtic fans vented their displeasure at winger Mikey Johnston over the manner in which his involvement on Wednesday night came to an end, with some branding him “selfish” over what transpired.
The 20-year-old was forced off with an injury in the closing minutes of the 3-0 win at St Johnstone and, with Neil Lennon having already made his three substitutions by that point, the Hoops had to see out the game with 10 men.
However, as noted by the Daily Record, Johnston appeared to refuse the opportunity to be substituted earlier in the match after he looked to be struggling and had gone down, only for the winger to insist that he was fine to carry on. As he left the pitch, Lennon’s fury with the youngster was visible in his facial expression and he appeared to shout an obscenity at the 20-year-old.
Johnston, who earlier this season suffered a thigh problem that kept him out for almost three months, had come under fire from some Celtic fans over recent performances and, following his refusal to be substituted last night before ultimately being forced off, these Hoops supporters on Twitter were not happy with the winger:
Neil Lennon is a rotten manager, but he was correct in what he said to Mikey Johnston. The guy thinks he's a lot better than he actually is

Mikey Johnston deserves to be dropped for that…clearly asked by the manager if he’s ok…selfish.

Selfish from Mikey Johnston. Lennon right to be fuming.

Honestly, Mikey Johnston is made of chocolate. Boy needs to go out on loan for a year, play some football, toughen up and put on some muscle!!!

Do you think Johnston was wrong to insist that he could play on or has he been harshly maligned over the incident in the win at St Johnstone? Let us know your views in the comments section below!
