Celtic may not be in the Champions League this season but, as tweeted by @CelticFC, they can lay claim to be the best team in Europe in a couple of departments.
The Daily Record also noted that Neil Lennon’s team are the leading scorers in all currently active European top-flight leagues after their four-goal haul at Hamilton on Sunday took them to 68 Premiership goals for the season, two ahead of Austria’s Red Bull Salzburg and eight more than European champions and runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool. The Hoops have eight more league goals at this stage of the season than in 2016/17, when they ended the Premiership campaign with 106 goals to their name (as per Daily Record).
Their Twitter channel @CelticFC added that the Hoops also have the best goal difference of all currently active European leagues with +53, compared to +48 for Red Bull Salzburg, +45 for Liverpool and +43 for Paris Saint-Germain and Ajax. Lennon’s men have put seven past St Johnstone, six past Ross County and five past Motherwell in individual games this season, as well as scoring four goals in four other league matches (as per TransferMarkt).
These Celtic fans on Twitter are quite enjoying their status as the most prolific team in Europe:
