Many Celtic fans were left shocked and appalled by a “shocking” incident which ended Jeremie Frimpong’s involvement on Wednesday night, with one supporter claiming to be “in tears” over what happened.
The 19-year-old defender was the victim of what The Scottish Sun‘s Kenny MacDonald called “a crunching challenge” from Kilmarnock’s Alan Power, one which resulted in the Celtic youngster leaving the pitch on a stretcher in the closing minutes of his team’s 3-1 win at Rugby Park.
Despite the tackle ending Frimpong’s night and being largely responsible for six minutes of stoppage time at the end of the second half, Power was not even shown a yellow card by referee Don Robertson. Thankfully from a Hoops perspective, manager Neil Lennon told Sky Sports afterwards that the right-back could return for the weekend’s clash against Ross County, having merely suffered “a bit of bruising” rather than a serious knee injury.
While the update on Frimpong seems encouraging, these Celtic fans on Twitter were shocked and angry immediately after the challenge from Power:
Thats me in tears now

Frimpong now going off injured after another reckless and unpunished challenge from Power.
There’s various reasons why Scotland seem incapable these days of producing technically gifted players. The standard of refereeing is unquestionably one of them. https://t.co/KEHpisoDyM

Ridiculous tackle from Power again, but what we’ve come to expect from him. Hardly surprising when the refs don’t even book him for what looks like a really bad tackle. Yes, he may have got the ball but he went right through the player as well. Shocking!
