Celtic: Fans look back at memorable win over Liverpool on anniversary

Celtic fans were looking back at one of the club’s most memorable wins in a European competition, which took place exactly 17 years years ago today (20th March).
On this day in 2003, the Hoops managed to beat Liverpool 2-0 at Anfield in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup. The sides went into the second-leg with the score level at 1-1 following the encounter at Celtic Park. Both goals proved to be stunning strikes with ex-midfielder Alan Thompson opening the scoring with a driven free-kick from outside the penalty box.
One fan seemed to remember the game for the two goals.

Former Hoops forward John Hartson then doubled the lead with a piece of individual brilliance as he skipped past Dietmar Hamann before launching a stunner into the top-right corner of the net. However, the long European campaign ended in heartbreak for Martin O’Neill’s men, who eventually lost to Porto in the final.
Supporters remembered the game with great fondness as they took to Twitter to react. Here are some tweets:

The pain in the commentators voice when he realises the English side are getting knocked out off a Scottish one is superb 👏🥰 @KieranF2802
