A lot of Celtic fans are raving over how good Bobby Murdoch was for the Scottish side following a post from the club on Twitter.
Murdoch played for the side from 1959 to 1973, per thecelticwiki, and made 485 appearances, scoring 102 goals, whilst also winning five Scottish Cups and five League Cups.
However his greatest achievement with the club is being part of the ‘Lisbon Lions’. This was the 1967 squad who picked up the club’s first and only European trophy and it was Britain’s first ever continental triumph as well, per Transfermarkt.
He was voted Scottish Player of the Year in 1969 and was a key player in the success throughout the 1960’s and early 1970’s for Celtic FC, per thecelticwiki.
Clearly he was a great player at the time and is remembered fondly by the Hoops fanbase as they flooded to the club’s tweet to rave over the former midfielder. One even described him as the “greatest Celtic player ever.”
Here is what they said following the tweet:
My auld man was adamant that Bobby Murdoch was the best player he had ever seen

Most of the Lisbon Lions reckon he was the greatest Celtic player ever. Some amount of goals from midfield! Most under rated player in Scottish football? Only 12 Scotland caps too. https://t.co/DL3Y19rlAY
