Celtic: Fans praise Hatem Abd Elhamed’s start to Hoops career

Celtic defender Hatem Abd Elhamed has indicated on Twitter that he has his sights set on returning to action in the next few days.

The versatile 28-year-old defender yesterday tweeted: “Can’t wait to get get back out on the pitch with the guys. Big week ahead” along with an image of him in training. [via @ElhamedHatemAbd]

The Israel international signed for Celtic in late July and has played four games for the club at right-back but has already had some injury setbacks, having to be substituted with a dead leg during his debut against St Johnstone and then missing the following week’s Premiership win at Motherwell with a minor muscle problem.

He was also sidelined for the Hoops’ last two games against AIK and Hearts after picking up a knock in training but his tweet seems to suggest that there is a chance of him featuring against AIK tomorrow night or Rangers in the Glasgow derby on Sunday.

Abd Elhamed has been acclaimed in some quarters for his early season performances at Celtic, including Football Scotland‘s Gabriel McKay, who has described him as “cool and composed on the ball“.

These Celtic fans took to Twitter to show their appreciation for the defender’s displays so far:
