Celtic have posted a tweet reminiscing about the late Johnny Doyle, who was born on this day in 1951, and a lot of the fans praised the player for his career at the club.
The winger enjoyed five years at the club from 1976 to 1981 and made 143 appearances in all competitions, scoring 37 goals along the way (as per celticfc.net). He also managed to win the league title three times as well as the Scottish Cup twice and clearly left a great impression during his spell at the Scottish side as many fans have been fondly remembering over him following the club’s Twitter post.
One of his most memorable moments was in Europe against Spanish giants Real Madrid, when he scored a headed goal against Los Blancos in a 2-0 victory in the European Cup in 1980 (as per celticfc.net). Tragically, he was killed in 1981 at the age of just 30 after an accident in his home.
