Many Celtic fans are reminiscing over a great victory against St.Mirren played back on the 3rd May 1986, after the club posted the highlights on Twitter.
Both the Hoops and Hearts were fighting for the league title, and it went to the final day of the season. All Hearts had to do was not lose their final game as they were currently sitting at the top, per The Guardian. They also had security if they did lose, their superior goal difference meant Celtic would have to score four more goals than Hearts would concede if they lost.
Celts fan Albert Kidd became the saviour for the Hoops as he scored two goals for Dundee against the current league leaders, whilst the Bhoys thrashed St.Mirren 5-0, and this all meant that they would win the league in dramatic fashion.
It is a historic day for all associated with Celtic and fondly remembered, whilst Hearts would then go on to suffer more heartbreak that campaign as they lost the cup final the following week to Alex Ferguson’s Aberdeen, via The Guardian.
Here is what fans had to say following the tweet:
📅 #ONTHISDAY 1986…
🙏 Hearts lose 😨
We score at least 4⃣, job done by half-time!
