Celtic’s academy Twitter channel @CelticFCAcademy shared a clip of a stunning goal from a recent encounter, although a few fans of the club took issue with the accompanying caption.
The clip shows Celtic’s under-18 side working the ball out from the back against their Inverness Caledonian Thistle counterparts with some slick passing play before Adam Montgomery surged forward from the halfway line and played a neat-one two, capping the move with a sumptuous Cruyff turn and composed finish. It was described as a “great individual goal” by @CelticFCAcademy, although many Hoops fans felt that the wording did not do justice to the work of Montgomery’s team-mates in the build-up to the goal.
The youngster who claimed the goal turns 18 in July and may hope to follow in the footsteps of academy products such as Mikey Johnston, Callum McGregor and James Forrest in establishing himself in the first team, with Karamoko Dembele, Scott Robertson and Stephen Welsh among the current young crop to have been given a chance by Neil Lennon this season.
These Celtic fans on Twitter seemed to enjoy Montgomery’s finish but were also keen to acknowledge his team-mates’ involvement in the goal:
5 players involved in that goal, great effort by the boy but wasn’t an individual effort.

A grate run & play from the young goal scorer but not a solo goal credit to the other lads 👍🏼🍀🍀🍀

A bit disrespectful to the other players in the buildup to the goal

Does a 1-2 count as individual.?
