Celtic will be alerted by the latest news surrounding transfer target Jordon Ibe after it was recently reported that he will be available on a free in the summer transfer window.
Sky Sports reported yesterday that the winger will leave the club when his contract expires on 1 July, even if the season is not yet finished. Back in January, the Hoops were very close to signing the winger, who Neil Lennon believed could strengthen the attack, via The Express.
Ibe has not had the best of times at Bournemouth since his £16.2m move from Liverpool back in July 2016, as per Transfermarkt. He has made 92 appearances in all competitions and only scored five goals whilst registering nine assists, so it is clear to see why the Cherries do not want to re-sign the winger.
However, this could be the perfect opportunity for Celtic as wingers like Ibe who have not been able to excel in England’s top flight, like Mohammed Elyounoussi and Scott Sinclair, turned into fan favourites at Parkhead. Elyounoussi has managed seven goals and six assists in the 20 games he has played and would likely have been even more productive had he not missed nearly two months with a foot injury.
Meanwhile, Sinclair managed to score 62 goals and provide 34 assists in 167 games in his time at the club, per Transfermarkt.
Based on their respective successes at Parkhead, Celtic could be the perfect club to offer Ibe a fresh start and get his career back on track, potentially representing another smart coup by the Hoops.
