With the Scottish season completed, there has been a lot of transfer news circulating around Celtic and it looks like they are willing sell Kristoffer Ajer this summer if their £20 million asking price is met, according to Football Insider.
The report from the media outlet went on to say that ‘A source with knowledge of Ajer‘s situation has told Football Insider that the Celtic board have made up their minds to let him go at the right price.’
News around the centre-back has been circulating for a while now, as last month Football Insider published an article discussing how Celtic chiefs are preparing for Ajer to quit this summer, and then the player himself confirmed his desire to leave via his agent, whilst he also looked to decline any new contract.
Would you sell Ajer?
Last week, the recent news from Calciomercato, via celticbible, suggested that whilst Leicester, PSG and Real Madrid remain interested, AC Milan are ready to step up their pursuit of the centre-back with the Hoops demanding €25m (£22.5m).
This would be a good deal for both the player and the club, for the Hoops, their price tag for the player has been met and he gets a desired move away from the club. It would also be a great bit of business for the club as the 22 year-old was signed by the Celts for only £540,000 in July 2014, per Transfermarkt, so they would be making a huge profit on the Norwegian.
They could use that money to not just bring in a replacement, but to strengthen their squad in a couple of positions if they can scout as well as they did for Ajer in the first place.
With the club confirming over the weekend that Jonny Hayes and Jozo Simunovic would be leaving the club, whilst Fraser Forster and Mohammed Elyounoussi are set to return to parent club Southampton, the Hoops will need to acquire players in a few positions to maintain their dominance in Scotland and the Ajer money could be a huge boost to help them do that.
