Celtic: Noel Whelan believes Jordon Ibe could have a great career at Parkhead under Neil Lennon - Celtic

Former Leeds United and Coventry City striker Noel Whelan, who now features regularly as a radio pundit, believes that Jordon Ibe could be very successful at Celtic.

Sky Sports recently reported that the winger will leave the club when his contract expires on 1 July, even if the season is not yet finished. Back in January, the Hoops were very close to signing the winger, who Neil Lennon believed could strengthen the attack, via The Express.

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan said, “People will be working on recruitment behind the scenes. I am pretty sure he is a player that Neil Lennon can get the best out of. They did it with Scott Sinclair. He had a fantastic period there.

“They probably see him as a similar player but he needs to meet the expectations people had of him when he left Liverpool. He was a fantastic player but has never hit the heights that were expected from people. Celtic have managed to create a great environment to be around, a winning environment.

“He will feel wanted there but he needs to step into that role and prove a point if he makes the move. There is more in him so this is a really big decision for him.”

Will Ibe be able to reignite his career if he moved to Celtic?

It is hard to disagree with Whelan here – this could be ideal transfer both both Ibe and the Hoops. Mohammed Elyounoussi and Scott Sinclair have both enjoyed successful spells Parkhead after playing in the Premier League.
Elyounoussi has managed seven goals and six assists in the 20 games he has played and would likely have been even more productive had he not missed nearly two months with a foot injury. Meanwhile, Sinclair managed to score 62 goals and provide 34 assists in 167 games in his time at the club, as per Transfermarkt.
For Ibe, not only can he join a club which has enjoyed plentiful success of late, but he could follow in the footsteps of Elyounoussi and Sinclair in possibly getting back to his best at Celtic after a difficult time in the Premier League.
