Celtic fans have long been aware of the fact that their impressive left-back Kieran Tierney may not be going to stick around forever amid constant links away. Whilst he continues to perform for the Hoops and his stock keeps rising, the Bhoys’ fortunes in Europe aren’t changing, and it seems a matter of time before he leaves. His perfect replacement isn’t a costly one when he does depart though.
The name Milad Mohammadi is one that the majority of football fans won’t be aware of, but the 25-year-old Iranian footballer has all the qualities needed to excel at Parkhead. So far in his career, the defender, who can also double up and feature as a winger, has had little media attention, other than for his spectacular acrobatic throw-in attempt at the World Cup that went horribly wrong.
Mohammadi won’t want to retire with that one short clip of his throw-in being what he’s remembered for, and according to this exclusive from Football Insider, the full-back could be set to leave Russian Premier League side Akhmat Grozny for Celtic with his contract being up in the summer. The Hoops face competition for Mohammadi, though, with both Bristol City and Fulham interested.
It shouldn’t be too tough for the Glasgow giants to see off the interest from the Championship pair considering they have the elusive offer of European football to tempt the left-back with. Even if Kieran Tierney does stay at the club and the Scot’s time overlaps with Mohammadi’s, the Iranian is a much better back-up than Emilio Izaguirre and it would give him a chance to bed in and prepare for the task ahead of him when Tierney eventually and inevitably departs.
In truth, there are very little drawbacks to this potential deal. Mohammadi would be coming in on a free, and at a relatively young age of just 25-years-old with time to grow. Any potential sale in the future would yield a profit, and with his electric pace and ability to feature up and down the left-flank, Neil Lennon best not think twice about making a move for the 25-time international this summer.
