A recent report suggests that Celtic will do whatever is necessary to make sure Fraser Forster is signed on a permanent deal in the summer.
According to Football Insider, a Celtic source has indicated that the club will “pull out all the stops” to find the funds to purchase the goalkeeper, although they will probably need to sell some players before buying him.
Forster knows the club well as he used to play for the Hoops until he moved to Southampton in 2014 for around £11.25m, via Transfermarkt. His spell in England started well, with him gaining an international call up to the Three Lions’ squad, but recently he was unfavoured by manager Ralph Hasenhuttl so he went back to Scotland on loan to reignite his career last summer. He is currently valued at around £5.85m on Transfermarkt.
Will Celtic be able to afford Fraser Forster on a permanent basis?
The 32 year-old goalkeeper has performed brilliantly since his return, playing 28 games and keeping 14 clean sheets, whilst only conceding 17 goals, via Transfermarkt. His performances have had people at the club begging for him to stay and his statistics highlight why they have loved him so much this campaign.
With such great performances from the Englishman, who has the joint-most clean sheets in the league, as per SPFL, Celtic are right to be so desperate to keep him and there is no doubt that the side appear far more confident with him in between the sticks. If they can acquire him permanently for next season, this confidence should help them massively as they aim for their 10th Premiership title in a row.
