According to a recent report from Fotomac, Adam Lallana could be set for a move away in this month’s transfer window. The 30-year-old currently plays his football at Premier League leaders Liverpool and has done so since leaving Southampton back in 2014, although a lack of regular game time under manager Jurgen Klopp this season has plunged his future at Anfield into doubt.
And reports suggest that Turkish heavyweights Fenerbahce are interested in a January move for the midfielder, as should Celtic and manager Brendan Rodgers, as a reunion with the man he signed for Liverpool at Parkhead would hugely aid in the Bhoys’ quest for an eighth straight Scottish Premiership crown this season.
Ultimately, there looks set to be a tightly-fought title race north of the border this term given Celtic and Rangers are level on points at the summit of the division, with the latter very much believing that they can end the former’s recent dominance of Scottish football by pipping them to the post this time round.
Rodgers’ men will still be favourites to get the job done though given they currently head the table on goal difference, although a lot will come down to the two clubs’ respective business in the January window, especially given Celtic spent very little during the summer in a bid to equip Rodgers with another all-conquering side.
They will surely have to add to their ranks this time round though such is the pressure and noise from across the city, and an ambitious move for England international Lallana, who Rodgers signed for Liverpool back in 2014, would go some way to ensuring that an eighth successive title will be on its way to Parkhead.
The 30-year-old may have seriously struggled with injury in the last few years, but there is little doubting his quality in the centre of midfield after excelling for both Liverpool and indeed for England in years gone by – he became a vital cog in Klopp’s side in the 2016/17 season as the Reds returned to the Premier League’s top four.
Add in a hugely fruitful time on the south coast with Southampton, helping them move up from League One to become an established top tier team, and it’s plainly obvious just what an accomplished midfielder Lallana is – he just needs a run of games to get back to that level.
And were he to reach that level, Celtic would have a seriously talented player in their ranks – he may not have produced his best football under Rodgers during his time at Liverpool, but there is no doubt that the Northern Irishman helped set the wheels in motion to enable Lallana to become the player he is.
Yes, there will be obvious concerns about his recent injury problems given he has only appeared eight times for Liverpool this term, but it is surely a risk worth taking as, were Celtic to get the best out of him, he could play a significant role in the title race – he is that good when on-song.
And with the threat of Rangers very real this term, Rodgers will be well aware just how vital it is to get January right – yet eight-in-a-row would be all but in the bag were the ex-Liverpool chief to raid his former employers to reunite with £65,000-a-week Lallana (as per Spotrac) this month.
