According to a recent report from The Sun, Josh Maja’s future remains far from certain heading into the rest of the January transfer window. The 20-year-old currently plays his football at League One outfit Sunderland having come up through the ranks at the Stadium of Light, with his excellent goal-scoring form for the Black Cats seemingly attracting interest from potential suitors up and down the country.
And reports suggest that Jack Ross’ side are hoping for £4 million for the striker following a reported £2 million bid from Cardiff City, which should be of keen interest to Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers given they are one team reportedly eyeing up a move for the Englishman.
And for just £4 million, Rodgers could well secure the signing to set the Bhoys up for further dominance of football north of the border.
Ultimately, Rodgers’ men have embarked upon a hugely successful few years following his appointment as Ronny Deila’s successor back in 2016, with the Northern Irishman since then leading the team to every domestic trophy on offer in Scottish football.
And with the Bhoys sat top of the Scottish Premiership after 20 games this time round as well, albeit level on points with Old Firm rivals Rangers, the Scottish heavyweights are again in prime position to go on and win the league, which would be their eighth in a row dating back to Rangers’ last success in 2011.
As such, things are certainly extremely bright at Parkhead under the stewardship of Rodgers, and adding the extremely talented Maja would go some way to aiding Celtic’s quest to maintain their domination of football north of the border for many more years to come.
The 20-year-old may have only made his senior Sunderland debut at the rear end of 2017, and indeed proceeded to struggle in the Championship in 2017/18 with only one goal to his name, but the striker has been in scintillating goal-scoring form this time round for the Black Cats in the third tier.
And that’s because the Englishman has bagged an impressive 15 goals in just 24 appearances for Ross’ side to help them to third place in the League One table, with that tally second only to Doncaster Rovers’ John Marquis in terms of most goals scored in the second tier this season.
And with a couple of assists intertwined as well, Maja appears to possess more than just those predatory instincts in front of goal which, at the tender age of 20, surely sets him up for an extremely bright future in the game.
And under the guidance of Rodgers, who has certainly done his bit in improving and developing young players into stars during his managerial career, the 20-year-old could seriously flourish by making the move to Celtic this month – and for only £4 million, it could prove to be a steal given just how much potential Maja has.
Yes, the Bhoys could wait and get him for a nominal amount in the summer, but seizing the initiative now for only £4 million would control the situation, and go some way to guaranteeing them their man – the same cannot be said come the summer.
And that is why, for just £4 million, Rodgers must seek to land Maja – the gem that could help set Celtic up for even greater dominance of football in Scotland for years to come.
