Rangers moved level on points with rivals Celtic after Ryan Jack’s goal secured victory in the Old Firm derby.
The Gers deserved their victory with Steven Gerrard becoming the first manager to defeat Brendan Rodgers during his reign at Celtic Park. Jack’s first-half goal proved to be decisive as Celtic struggled to gain a foothold in the middle of the park. Rodgers ultimate paid the price for his poor team selection, and Gerrard holds the bragging rights for the time being.
Rangers have now moved level on points with the league leaders who do have a game in hand. The January transfer window is now open giving Rodgers the opportunity to strengthen his squad. With the title race set to head to the wire, the ex-Liverpool boss would be wise to add to his ranks in the New Year.
One man he could target is West Brom defender – Ahmed Hegazi. Valued at £7.2m by Transfermarkt, the Egypt international has been a mainstay in the Baggies defence since completing a permanent transfer to the club back in January 2018 after impressing on loan. Despite performing well in the Premier League, Hegazi was unable to save the club from relegation but has been a regular during their spell in the Championship – starting 22 games so far.
The 27-year-old is immensely strong and would be a dominant force in the SPFL. Hegazi is a no-nonsense defender who would add some much-needed stability to the Celtic backline that has looked below par at times. With Dedryck Boyata failing to perform yet again against Rangers, it’s time Rodgers invested in a new defender.
Hegazi is approaching his prime, has already performed at the highest level, and would be a great fit at Celtic Park.
