Celtic winger James Forrest has signed a new four-year deal, keeping him at the club until 2023.
He told celticfc.net: “Obviously I came through the youth and I think every year I’ve just been enjoying it more and more, and I’m absolutely delighted to extend my stay and I’m looking forward to winning more leagues and cups.
“I think the pressure at Celtic’s massive, I think with the amount of players they sign it’s always competitive and every day you’re playing ahead a good team and you’re bettering yourself.
“Everyone knows how much the fans mean to the club and how big the club is, and I think it’s great to be here and especially when you’re winning trophies and doing well.
“I’m absolutely delighted to get another contract. Now that it’s done, I want to focus on playing and helping the team.” (via Celtic FC on YouTube)
Celtic’s official interview mentions the club are in transition at the moment, particularly due to the managerial change, and that’s one reason why it’s so important Forrest has stayed.
He’s been at the club for nearly 20 years now and will know the place inside out, so having him there to support young players coming through like Jeremie Frimpong should be beneficial to their development.
The Scot’s experience of winning eight Premiership titles and also making 20 appearances in the Champions League shows that he has been consistently successful and experienced at a high level of football.
Fans can now expect more of the same over the next couple of years, and the fact he’ll help the next generation make the step up to being first-team regulars should benefit the club also.
