Brendan Rodgers must surely want more additions to his Celtic squad to boost his side’s chances in the Scottish Premiership title race.
Defeat to Rangers at the end of 2018 meant the Gers moved level on points with the Hoops heading into January. Indeed, Celtic do have game in hand but the title race looks set to be one of the closest since Rodgers took over at the club. The former Liverpool boss has wasted no time strengthening his squad in the January transfer window in preparation for the run in.
Rodgers has been eager to add to his forward line following the departure of Moussa Dembele and secured the services of Timothy Weah on loan from Paris St Germain. The Northern Irishman also landed Oliver Burke and Vakoun Issouf Bayo but must now turn his attention to his defence. Celtic have been lacking at the back at times throughout the season and improvements can be made.
One man Rodgers should target is Swansea City youngster – Joe Rodon. Valued at just £225k by Transfermarkt, the 21-year-old has been an important player for the Swans after cementing his place in the first-team at the Liberty Stadium. Rodon has been ever-present for his side, making 22 appearances in all competitions so far.
Despite his young age, Rodon reads the game expertly, allowing him to make 1.5 interceptions per game in the Championship this season. A no-nonsense defender, averaging 5.8 clearances per game, could be exactly what Celtic need to stop leaky goals. Rodon is also dominant in the air, winning 4.3 aerial duels per game this season, meaning he would have no difficulty adapting to life in Scotland. The Wales international is also a fine passer of the ball, completing 87% of his balls this season, making him perfect for Rodgers’ system (WhoScored).
Still improving and developing, this move should be a no brainer.
