Celtic fans will be concerned with their sides dismal start to the 2018/19 campaign.
The Hoops were knocked out of the Champions League by AEK Athens last month, meaning they would not compete in the group stages of the competition for the first time in five years. Their poor form has continued into the league and Celtic were served another blow by losing Moussa Dembele on deadline day. A 2-1 defeat to Kilmarnock at the weekend leaves Brendan Rodgers’ side six points behind Hearts at the top of SPFL.
With just ten points from six league games, the pressure is on Rodgers to turn their season around quickly. The Northern Irishman admitted that Celtic fans should be alarmed following the defeat against Kilmarnock. Adding to his squad in January is vital if the ex-Liverpool boss is to improve their fortunes.
One man they should consider signing is ex-Liverpool defender – Steven Caulker. Valued at £540k by Transfermarkt, the Englishman is currently searching for a new club after leaving Dundee on deadline day. The 26-year-old impressed in Scotland but triggered a clause in his contract to leave and is now free to register for a new side before January when he would be eligible to play.
Celtic’s performances at the back have left much to be desired, and Caulker could prove to be a useful option. He has experience in both the Championship and Premier League which could be crucial to Celtic improving their form. At just 26, he has plenty of years at the top level remaining and could vastly improve under Rodgers’ guidance.
The Northern Irishman worked with the defender at Swansea and should be targeting a January reunion.
Celtic fans, thoughts?
