Celtic were beaten 2-0 by Red Bull Leipzig on Thursday night as their Europa League campaign looks to be in tatters.
The Bhoys, who have been poor away in Europe for some time now, sit three points behind their German counterparts, whilst Red Bull Salzburg sit six ahead of the Scottish Premiership champions in the group.
To make matters worse for Brendan Rodgers, Jozo Simunovic had to be stretched off with an apparent ankle injury, giving him a defensive crisis ahead of the Scottish Cup semi-final clash with Heart of Midlothian on Sunday.
The Hoops are already without Dedryck Boyata for the game through suspension and the Bosnia and Herzegovina international now looks set to miss the game, leaving just Jack Hendry and Filip Benkovic as his recognised centre-backs that are available.
“Jozo looks like he’ll be struggling,” Rodgers told the Scottish Sun.
“He took an awkward landing when he jumped for the ball.
“He will be a question mark for the weekend.
“Unfortunately Boyata – who I thought was outstanding tonight – won’t be available at the weekend. But Jozo will struggle to make it.”
Simunovic’s latest setback will have come as a huge blow to Celtic and their chances of progressing to his season’s first final.
With his absence, as well as Boyata’s, Hendry and Benkovic remain the only two available centre-backs, but the former has looked shaky when he has been handed game-time.
Hearts have been in great form this season and currently lead the Scottish Premiership and will be a tough test for a side that have had their issues this season.
