Young players. Some go on to do great things in the game, others just fade away into the abyss. And even with just 45 minutes of first-team football under his belt, it’s clear to see which direction Karamoko Dembele is probably heading in.
In what was the last Scottish Premiership game of the season, Neil Lennon introduced Dembele to the Celtic faithful and it’s fair to say they were not let down.
When coming onto the pitch for the second half, there was an air of expectation, given what raving reviews fans had heard about him.
And Dembele (who is valued at £45k on Transfermarkt) was exactly how many predicted he would be, while those Hearts players did not have a clue on how to contain him.
Understandably for a 16-year-old, physically he still has plenty of developing to do but technically, he is amazingly gifted.
With a fantastic turn of pace, great skill and vision, Dembele has got fans excited about his potential and rightly.
A player willing to be so daring and direct on his debut at the tender age of 16 highlights what a special individual he really is.
Celtic, of course, will have to nurture Dembele properly if they’re to get the best out of him, and giving him more chances in the first-team next season is where they should begin.
It’s rare you witness a player with such potential and after impressing on his debut, fans are desperate to see more from the youngster.
