Leigh Griffiths set to take extended break away from Celtic

Celtic will be focusing on their huge Europa League match with Red Bull Leipzig on Thursday night as they look to qualify for the next stage of the competition.

However, it would appear as though the Bhoys have been rocked with a huge blow ahead of the crucial match.

According to the Daily Mirror, Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Leigh Griffiths will be taking an extended period of leave from football.

The Scotland international, who has had trouble with injuries this season, is thought to have been struggling with issues away from the sport and has been given the time to try and help overcome them.

“Leigh will be out of football for a little period of time. He’s had ongoing issues for a number of months,” Rodgers said.

“He’s reached a point where it’s a struggle for him. We are going to give him all the professional help he needs to get him back in a good place. He’s a great guy but football and life is tough for him right now.”

The Verdict:

Griffiths has been an important player for Celtic in the five years that he has been at Celtic Park, having played a huge role in helping the club continually lift the Scottish Premiership trophy.

The 28-year-old has already had a difficult season so far, with the injuries that he has picked up, and he is now set to miss a number of crucial games across the festive period.

There is no doubt that Griffiths will be missed at Parkhead during his extended break and fans will want to wish him the best and will be keen to see him back in action for the Hoops in the very near future.
