Mikael Lustig’s future at Celtic has come into doubt in the past few months.
The Sweden international has not been at his best this season and has attracted criticism with his performances at times throughout the campaign.
To make matters worse, the right-back’s current deal at Celtic Park is set to expire in the summer and there have been questions about whether he will be offered a new contract with the Scottish Premiership champions.
Lustig has been linked with a move to AIK in his homeland, however, the 32-year-old has addressed those rumours and has reaffirmed his hopes of remain in Scotland.
Speaking to Expressen, he said: “There’s really nothing to say there, because it’s nothing.
“I have a contract with Celtic and hope to extend here. The ball lies with them. If they want me to continue, I will stay here.”
Lustig has certainly not played the best football of his career this season, which has left his future at Celtic in doubt.
However, he is arguably the best right-back they currently have in the squad and could be a difficult player to try and replace in the summer.
The 32-year-old is clearly happy at Celtic Park but whether Celtic and Brendan Rodgers look to extend his stay remains to be seen.
