Celtic didn’t exactly make as many moves as bitter rivals Rangers made on the transfer front, but they sure did manage to bring in some quality.
Indeed, the Hoops drafted in the likes of Youssouf Mulumbu and Filip Benkovic on deadline day as Brendan Rodgers gears up for the challenges of the current campaign. Although, they did lose arguably their strongest player, as according to Celtic’s official website, Moussa Dembele has joined French side Lyon.
Celtic confirmed that the club has accepted an offer from Lyon for the transfer of striker Moussa Dembele.
“Every decision we make at Celtic will always be in the best interests of the Club and our supporters.
“It is vital to make clear that we have never promised any player that he can leave the Club at a particular time. It has never happened. In fact, we have said all along that we did not wish to sell Moussa, given the circumstances within the transfer window and that is why we rejected a significant offer yesterday.
“However, this particular decision to accept this offer has been taken in order to serve the best interests of the first-team squad, my coaching team and the culture and environment we have created in these last two seasons.”
The Frenchman was prolific during his time in Scotland and will always be remembered, but he did decide to take up the opportunity to move to Lyon yesterday.
Indeed, the Hoops really shouldn’t have accepted a bid under any circumstances as they’ve now left themselves struggling for quality at the pinnacle of the attack.
Moussa Dembele’s departure will be sure to concern and worry supporters as they struggle to come to terms with the reasoning behind Celtic’s decision to let him go.
So, with the transfer window now shut until January, the Scottish club could now come to regret their decision.
