Oumar Niasse would give Celtic an interesting attacking dimension

Celtic fans will be glad to see their Europa League campaign kick off with a win against Rosenborg.

There was massive pressure on Brendan Rodgers after the Hoops were knocked out of the Champions League by AEK Athens. Fortunately, Celtic were able to progress to the group stages of the Europa League by winning a playoff. A late Leigh Griffiths goal ensured that Rodgers started their European adventure with a victory.

Now, it’s just about improving that league form…

Celtic endured a quiet summer transfer window but did smash their club transfer record to sign Odsonne Eduard on a permanent deal from Paris St Germain. Bhoys fans were handed a huge transfer blow on deadline day when Lyon signed fan favourite Moussa Dembele. The French forward was a key player for the club and will be sorely missed.

To replace him, Celtic should consider a move for Everton outcast – Oumar Niasse. Valued at £7.2m by Transfermarkt, the Senegal international joined the Toffees for £13.5m from Lokomotiv Moscow back in 2016. However, he was restricted to just 152 minutes of football in his first season and was later loaned to Hull City.

Niasse remains firmly down the pecking order at Goodison Park following the arrival of Marco Silva and Cenk Tosun. The 28-year-old has been restricted to just four substitute appearances and could leave in search of first-team football. A fresh start in the SPFL could be just what he needs to revive his career.

Under Rodgers’ tutelage, Niasse could be a useful rotation option for the Hoops as they look to balance competing in multiple competitions this year. Potentially available on the cheap, it might be a move worth making.
