Rangers fans on Twitter couldn’t work out what Gerrard was doing with Coulibaly call - Celtic

Despite making an absolutely cracking start to life at Ibrox when he first signed for the Glasgow club on loan in the summer, Lassana Coulibaly has struggled as of late. The young midfielder came in as a loan signing from Ligue 1 club Angers, but when he was introduced to the Old Firm in place of Daniel Candeias yesterday the fans were fuming.

If the already nervy Bluenoses were asked which substitution they didn’t want to see against Celtic, it would have been their Portuguese workhorse, Candeias coming off for someone who has failed to hit any sort of form since way back in October in Lassana Coulibaly. However, it seems clear that Gerrard has faith in every single member of his squad, and that includes the 22-year-old Malian.

When Coulibaly first burst into the side he was being lauded as one of the signings of the season by a lot of the Gers. That early hype has quickly died down, though, and it now looks like the fans would cancel his loan early if possible. Fortunately, the youngster didn’t sabotage their Old Firm win as they lasted the final 20 minutes with him on the pitch, amd after his cameo appearance he may be able to build and put some more displays in.

You can read the Bluenoses’ verdict on Gerrard’s switch here:

The fans were understandably fuming at what they saw as a potentially match ruining change, but they should have had more faith in Gerrard as Coulibaly helped them see out a famous win.
