Rangers fans have been reacting to the news that Steven Gerrard is prepared to give up on the chase for Ryan Kent.
The manager, as quoted by The Scotsman, revealed that the club had to move on from the player after Jurgen Klopp made it clear that he would only be prepared to let the winger leave Liverpool on a permanent basis.
“I haven’t asked that question [to the board] but I think the answer would probably be yes,” Gerrard said.
“Jurgen has come out and given the answer that will come out of my mouth anyway. It has been addressed and we move on. The end of it? Where we are right now, yes. We respect Liverpool’s stance and we thank them very much for allowing us to work with Ryan for a year.
“We have obviously got a Liverpool player at the moment in Sheyi Ojo who has started very well. I had a good conversation on the phone with Jurgen a few days ago and we totally respect Liverpool’s position on it.”
Kent was an exceptional talent for Rangers last season and proved to be a real driving force for Gerrard’s side as the campaign went on. The 22-year-old went on to make 43 appearances for the Light Blues across all competitions, netting six goals and providing a further nine assists (Transfermarkt).
His performances were also recognised at the highest level of the game within Scotland as well at the end of the season as he was named the Scottish Young Player of the Year for the 2018/19 campaign.
Although Kent may be considered a loss at Ibrox, Jordan Jones has since come in and his experience of Scotland’s top-flight could be a boost to their chances of winning the title. The Northern Ireland international managed to bag himself four goals and four assists in his 35 matches for Kilmarnock (Transfermarkt).
However, fans believe missing out on Kent is a huge blow this summer and one even felt the addition of Jones is actually a downgrade on the 22-year-old.
Here are just some of their reactions to Gerrard’s comments…
Well Ryan Kent is not coming back to Rangers. I’m sad, but at least we have closure.

Gutted about Ryan Kent

Ryan Kent is a massive miss for us. One of the only players who could win us games last season if he wanted to. The fact that we’ve went from him to Jordan Jones is quite ridiculous in all honesty, a massive downgrade.
