Rangers: Fans call for George Edmundson to come into the team

A number of Rangers fans have been calling for centre-back George Edmundson to come into the starting XI for Steven Gerrard’s side.

The ‘Gers lost ground in the Premiership title race on Wednesday night after squandering a two-goal lead to end up drawing 2-2 at Aberdeen, with starting centre-backs Connor Goldson and Filip Helander both coming in for criticism over their performances.

Ayush Chaurasia of The 4th Official felt that Goldson “was all over the place defensively for both the goals” scored by Aberdeen, while Rangers News writer James Black wrote that Helander “needs to up his game” after a “shaky night”.

Along with fellow centre-back Nikola Katic, the pair have played for more than 1,000 minutes this season, with Edmundson by far the least-used senior centre-half at Rangers with just 374 minutes of first team action in 2019/20. [via TransferMarkt]

His last appearance for Gerrard’s team came in the 5-0 win over Hamilton two months ago, which is also the last time that he made a matchday squad. [via TransferMarkt]

However, after the defensive struggles of Goldson and Helander on Wednesday night, these Rangers fans on Twitter want to see Edmundson being given more of a chance in the first team, with some calling for him to start in Sunday’s Betfred Cup final:
