Rangers winger Ryan Kent came in for criticism from quite a few of the club’s supporters over his display at Ibrox on Wednesday night.
The 23-year-old, who cost £7m from Liverpool last year (as per BBC), started for the 13th Premiership game in succession in the 2-1 win over Hibernian but had been substituted by the time Ianis Hagi popped up with the 84th-minute winner for Steven Gerrard’s side.
Kent has scored six league goals this season but has now gone three games without finding the net, while he still hasn’t provided a single Premiership assist in 2019/20 (as per TransferMarkt). The 4th Official writer Abhinab Ghosh noted that, aside from one early chance which nearly found the net, the winger “was largely a frustrated figure” as the ‘Gers were forced to come from behind to claim all three points.
Some other reporters were also critical of Kent’s display against Hibernian. Glasgow Times‘ Matthew Lindsay felt that he was “virtually anonymous in the second half” and “was lucky to remain on the pitch” until the time of his 81st-minute withdrawal for Jordan Jones. Meanwhile, James Black of Rangers News feels that the 23-year-old has been poor of late, writing that he “can’t just do it every five or six games and then disappear”.
These Rangers fans on Twitter also slammed Kent over his performance at Ibrox on Wednesday night, with one labelling him a “passenger” and another comparing him to Jordan Rossiter, who is on loan at Fleetwood from the ‘Gers and has scored just once in 16 games for the Light Blues:
Ryan Kent is driving me up the wall.

Ryan Kent? Money well spent or another Rossiter?

What is up wae Ryan Kent.
Used to take players on running the channels now he cuts inside and crossfield passes whenever he can. Lost his mojo.

Ryan Kent is a passenger

Ryan Kent really needs to do a lot more to justify that £7m price tag, and do it consistently.

Ryan Kent’s form is really concerning, on his day he easily looks a £7mil player, the problem we have is he’s only showing that form in flashes. For us to succeed this season we need him on his game every week

Will the real Ryan Kent please stand up
— Greg Scott (@GregScott_93) February 5, 2020
Ryan Kent done 1 thing all season. A waste of 7 mil
