Rangers: Fans cry foul over treatment of Alfredo Morelos after Ryan Porteous tackle

Despite seeing their team cruise to a comfortable 3-0 victory and close the gap at the top of the Premiership to two points, plenty of Rangers fans on Twitter were fuming over one incident from last night’s tempestuous encounter at Easter Road.
The result was overshadowed by a reckless challenge from Hibernian’s Ryan Porteous on Borna Barisic, one which saw the offender sent off and which instigated ugly scenes as objects were thrown at the stricken Rangers defender and coaches from both benches become involved in a melee. [via BBC]
Sky Sports reporter Ron Walker described the 60th-minute tackle by Porteous as “atrocious” as he flew in high on Barisic, catching the Croatian on his standing leg, although thankfully the Rangers man was able to play on and complete the match.
A number of ‘Gers fans on Twitter drew comparisons between Porteous’ reckless lunge and the treatment of Alfredo Morelos, who was suspended for last night’s clash after being sent off in last week’s win at Motherwell when his gesture towards the opposition fans was deemed offensive (as per BBC).
The Colombian was criticised by pundits Tam McManus and Kenny Miller over the incident which led to his sixth red card since the start of last season.
Here is a portion of the reaction from Rangers fans over Porteous’ foul on Barisic last night:
Porteous with one of the most malicious and cowardly challenges I've seen in a long time
Well, since last season when Porteous done the same to Coulibaly
Mind that headline last week "Morelos up to his old tricks again at Fir Park" all because he done a fist pump
I'll wait

Last year @HibernianFC and their fans lauded Ryan Porteous for wiping out Morelos. Tonight he nearly breaks Borna’s leg. That’s why Scotland is stuck in the footballing dark ages.

Porteous done that to Morelos last year and the media lapped it up. Hes a horrible little ned.

Morelos commits that media meltdown no the first time porteous has put in a shocker of a tackle like that against us

Contrast the treatment of Porteous, who is actually a vicious thug who intends to injure opponents; with Morelos

Mad how Porteous is celebrated as a young rash hard man but Morelos is vilified for a couple of daft flick outs

Everyone talks about Morelos and his discipline. Porteous is worse in my books! That’s a shocker. Slows down to make sure he leaves it on Barisic, who ended up being lucky his leg wasn’t planted

Porteous on the same amount of Red cards as Alfredo Morelos this season, he must be a dirty dirty player.
