A number of Rangers fans were raging over the performance of referee John Beaton in their team’s defeat away to Kilmarnock last night.
The 38-year-old came under fire for a series of perceived injustices against Steven Gerrard’s side as they crashed to a 2-1 defeat at Rugby Park and dropped 10 points behind leaders Celtic in the title race. Alfredo Morelos, who was booked by the official for simulation early in the second half, had a late goal disallowed for an apparent push on a Kilmarnock player when the score was 1-1.
Ryan Kent was shown a yellow card just before half-time after he got involved in “handbags” with Alan Power following a late challenge from the 32-year-old, with the ‘Gers winger also seeing a penalty claim waved away when he went down under pressure from Chris Burke. There were also shouts for handball in the build-up to the home side’s equaliser when the ball struck Rory McKenzie’s arm before it dropped for Niko Hamalainen to set up scorer Stephen O’Donnell.
The refereeing performance of Beaton was loudly condemned by these Rangers fans on Twitter:
John Beaton should step down as a referee He is afraid to give decisions for Rangers or against our opponents because of the previous harassment he suffered after a Gers v eastenders game

Man of the match Mr John Beaton for Kilmarnock

handball leading to killie goal, no call, killie player arms wrapped round JT, no card, penalty claim, nothing, and a perfectly clean goal called off for a non existent foul. Rangers done deserve the win but the refs making sure of it

The ref should be sacked! Disgrace!

The whole officiating system is not fit for purpose.

5 points dropped this season because of John Beaton alone 👀

I agree Rangers are bottle jobs but it’s harsh considering John Beaton’s diabolical performance tonight. Their first goal had a handball in the build up, our goal should never have been disallowed. In a league with VAR we were never dropping that many points
