Sheffield United are looking to increase their squad depth for the 2020/21 campaign, and the latest report sees them linked to a defender in Germany.
According to Greek radio station Sport 24, centre-back Kyriakos Papadopoulos is being tracked by the Blades as he looks to find himself a new team.
He is a free agent after leaving 2. Bundesliga side Hamburger SV as they did not want to keep him at the club anymore.
The Greek international made history on the 2nd December 2007, when he made his debut and became the youngest player to ever play in the Greek league at the age of 15 years and 283 days.
He has a wealth of experience both in the Greek and German top divisions as well as on the international stage as he has made 251 appearances in his career, including 29 caps for his country, per Transfermarkt. This abundance of experience for a 28 year-old highlights there is some quality there and makes it understandable as to why the Blades are linked to him, however there is one prominent issue that indicates that the club should possibly steer clear of signing him.
The defender has struggled with various injuries throughout his career wherever he has been as he has missed 151 games since he has started playing football, emphasising that he is really injury prone. This is something that Chris Wilder will not want in his side as he may not be able to rely on him as it will be likely that he will continue to suffer more injuries in his career.
Someone who is injury prone does not provide the Blades with the necessary squad depth and they should definitely avoid signing Papadopoulos, even if it is a free transfer.
