Many Sheffield United fans have responded to a club tweet which shows their first goal versus Chelsea on Saturday when they were 2-0 down.
Lots of the fans appear to have taken a dig at BBC Sports’ Garth Crooks, who criticised United when they were 1-0 down at Stamford Bridge, allegedly writing off their chances of survival this season, saying “their style of football is quite basic for the Premier League”, per The Star.
This has miffed United fans massively – so much so that one fan has even started a petition for the BBC to sack Crooks over it (The Star).
Callum Robinson’s goal was a huge one for the Blades and proved to be the turning point as Sheffield United went on to rescue a point at Stamford Bridge thanks to an own goal from Kurt Zouma in the 89th minute.
The club tweet, which has amassed over 170 retweets and 1,300 likes, reads: “1 – High press. 2 – Force the error. 3 – Work the chance. Football the Sheff United way”. Much like the caption reads, the goal shows the work done by Sheffield United to score the goal; they start by pressing Chelsea high up the pitch before Cesar Azpilicueta is forced to make an error by putting the ball out into touch. A well-worked throw-in and some fantastic work from Enda Stevens then sets up a clear-cut chance for Callum Robinson who duly slots home in the 46th minute.
However, despite the impressive goal, a large portion of the United fans used the video as a chance to have a pop at Crooks, with many sarcastically talking about how “basic” the goal was.
