West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United are set to go head-to-head in a bid to sign Sheffield United striker David McGoldrick in the current transfer window, that is according to a report from Football Insider.
The two clubs are currently the top two in the Championship table and are looking to bolster their squads as they look to win automatic promotion to the Premier League this season.
The Republic of Ireland international has been a regular for the Blades this term, featuring 18 times in the top flight including 15 starts (Transfermarkt). However, he has failed to score a single goal so far this season, with his only goal involvements being a couple of assists against Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur respectively (Transfermarkt).
However, despite his lack of goals McGoldrick remains a fans favourite at Bramall Lane. That is because he offers plenty to the team, hard work, movement, hold-up play and quality on the ball. Indeed The Guardian cited all of those thing when comparing his role to that of Roberto Firmino at Liverpool, without the goals.
Therefore most Blades fans cannot see the club selling the former Ipswich Town ace in this transfer window, with many taking to Twitter to rubbish the rumours that he could go to either West Brom or Leeds United. Here is what some had to say…
At least give us a realistic transfer rumour

Baffaling journalism. He has played in 80% on the blades EPL games, hasn’t scored, but is still loved by his manager, team mates and the teams supporters. Why on earth would he leave #sufc

Battle all they want but he’s not going anywhere, same as Freeman and Sharp ⚔️
