Sheffield United are set to offer free agent Jack Rodwell a contract with the club (via @SheffieldUnited).
Manager Chris Wilder confirmed the news in his press conference ahead of their FA Cup third round tie against AFC Fylde on Sunday.
The ex-Manchester City man will be offered a short-term deal with the Blades until the end of the current season, but there will be an option of extending it.
He has been looking for a club since leaving Blackburn Rovers at the end of the 2018/19 campaign and was previously linked with a move to Roma, but ultimately he failed to convince the Italian outfit to offer him a deal (Daily Mail).
It would certainly be an interesting signing, but Wilder has insisted that after talking to Rodwell about his future his ambitions align with the club’s (@SheffieldUnited).
Plenty of Sheffield United fans have been reacting to the news on Twitter, with most seemingly happy to trust Wilder on this one despite the 28-year-old having played no football so far this term.
Here is what some had to say…

No brainer really. Free transfer, low wages, point to prove.

Rodwell has a lot to prove. Let’s hope he has more of an impact than Ravel Morrison.

Rodwell looks a total Wilder signing. Obviously talented, low risk, versatile but for various reasons, off the beaten path. And as ever, if good enough for Chris, he’ll do for me. #twitterblades
