Sheffield United: Forest targeting Kieron Freeman could help Blades pursue Matty Cash

Matty Cash Nottingham Forest

It was reported recently that Sheffield United had a bid of around £10 million rejected from Nottingham Forest for Matty Cash, however the latest news could suggest that Forest are expecting the player to leave in this transfer window.

According to The Daily Mail, the Championship side are keen to sign defender Kieron Freeman but face competition from Championship rivals Swansea and Huddersfield.

Freeman was at Sheffield United this season until his contract expired and the Blades decided not to offer him a new deal.

The former Blade plays in the same position as Cash (right-back), and the fact that Nottingham Forest are looking to acquire Freeman could be a sign that they are willing to let Cash depart in the summer. If they manage to land Welshman, then it may have a knock on effect which allows Chris Wilder to take his target to Bramall Lane.

The 22 year-old shone for Forest at both ends of the pitch last season as he has made 42 appearances in the Championship and scored three goals whilst picking up five assists. He has also made 1.1 key passes a game, via WhoScored. Meanwhile defensively, he averaged 2.6 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and three clearances per game.

This would be a great addition for Wilder to add to his squad, as quality in depth is crucial if they want to perform as well as they did this season as they finished in the top half of the Premier League. The Blades were somewhat of a surprise package as many tipped them to get relegated, but they will definitely not be taken for granted next season and Wilder will have to strengthen his squad to adapt to the new challenge.
