Sheffield United: Chris Wilder frustrated by Lys Mousset’s fitness issues

Mousset

Lys Mousset has been playing well for Sheffield United this season in the Premier League when given the chance, but there is an issue which could see him leave in the summer.

According to Examiner Live, Chris Wilder has become very frustrated with Mousset’s fitness issues. The manager needs a squad who can last the full 90 minutes and who cover a lot of ground, and seemingly the Frenchman cannot be replied upon to do so.

Due to the manager’s frustrations, the Blades might look to sell the forward in the summer to free up some space and money for someone who suits Wilder’s criteria better.

Mousset has definitely helped the Blades to achieve a top-half finish this campaign, as he has scored six goals and supplied four assists in the Premier League, per WhoScored.

He actually has the joint-most goals in the division in the Blades’ squad, as well as the joint-most assists (per WhoScored), so he has certainly been a great attacking threat for the club since signing from Bournemouth last summer.

Mousset also boasts a great statistic which sees him rank first when it comes to goals scored as a substitute in the Premier League this season.

However, his fitness definitely seems to be an issue, as despite him playing 33 games in all competitions this season, he has only played for 1,235 minutes which equates to just under 14 full matches.

With his attacking threat, there is no doubt that the £8.55m-valued striker (as per Transfermarkt) would have more minutes under his belt if his fitness wasn’t such a major issue.

It highlights that he is not a dependable player for Wilder, and when you are a team very much overachieving, which is highlighted by Sheffield United’s league position compared to their wage structure, then every player in your ranks needs to be a reliable one.

It would be unfortunate if Mousset were to be jettisoned this summer but, if he doesn’t have Wilder’s trust, then it could make sense for the Blades to be open to potential offers for him.

Blades fans, should Mousset be shown more trust or are you concerned by Wilder’s doubts over him? Comment below with your views!
