Sheffield United: Former loanee Muhamed Besic surplus to requirements at Everton

Besic

When the Premier League resumed last month, clubs had to decide whether to extend loan deals so that they could keep players until the end of the season.

Sheffield United decided to let Muhamed Besic return to his parent club Everton, although recent news surrounding the midfielder suggests that other clubs can look to acquire him in the upcoming transfer window.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Besic has been told by Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti that he is surplus to requirements at the club and can look for a move in the transfer window.

The central midfielder currently has a contract which ends in the summer of 2021, so the club will be hopeful that they can sell him this summer and get some money for him.

The Bosnian played 13 times whilst on loan at the Blades, with nine of those in the Premier League, and he scored one goal in the FA Cup, per Transfermarkt.

However, the only games in which he was in the starting XI in the Premier League for Sheffield United were the two against Manchester City, aside from which he only played 83 minutes of top-flight football for the Blades. Chris Wilder evidently decided that he was not good enough, even as a squad player, hence why the Bramall Lane outfit allowed the 27-year-old to return to Everton.

Even though he is only valued at £2.16m on Transfermarkt, the Blades should not look to sign him in the summer, for they already seem to have deemed him not up to their level, as otherwise they would have extended his loan. Therefore, they should spend their money elsewhere on players that Wilder will use more regularly.

Blades fans, should Sheffield United forget about trying to re-sign Besic? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
