Sheffield Wednesday: Barry Bannan penalty secures win over Birmingham

Many Sheffield Wednesday fans have reacted the to the club’s Championship win over Birmingham City, which saw Barry Bannan score the only goal of the game.

Prior to the Saturday afternoon fixture, the Owls had won just one game, sitting rock bottom due to a points deduction over the summer.

With the pressure firmly on Garry Monk’s side to produce a string of results and wins, the visit to St. Andrews offered Wednesday a fantastic chance to gain three points, and that’s exactly what they did, with Scottish midfielder Bannan striking from the penalty spot in the 49th minute.

The former Aston Villa and Blackpool midfield man’s goal proved the decisive one in a game that ultimately lacked many clear cut chances, especially for the home side, who were poor.

Bannan had been linked with a summer exit from Hillsborough with Brentford said to be keen on the 30-year-old.
