Sheffield Wednesday: Fans react as Garry Monk would like to bring back Frederico Venancio

Sheffield Wednesday started last season well as they were third in December, but by the end of the campaign they finished in 16th. There were probably a few reasons for this demise, but one for sure was their defensive frailties.

The Owls conceded 66 goals in the Championship, which was the eighth worst record in the division, per SofaScore, and this is clearly an issue that Garry Monk needs to fix. It appears that he is looking to do just that following news from Dom Howson.

According to the journalist, who posted the news on Twitter, the club would like to bring back former loanee Frederico Venancio to strengthen the defence.

The former Portuguese U21 international was on loan in the 2017/18 Championship season, appearing 25 times in all competitions, picking up one goal and one assist as well as keeping 10 clean sheets, per Transfermarkt.

Currently the defender is playing in the Liga NOS, but is only valued at £720,000 on Transfermarkt, so this could be a very smart signing for the club as he may not be too expensive, and has proven that he can play well at this level.

He also clearly enjoyed his time at the club, as he posted on Instagram back in 2018 when he departed supporting the caption: ‘For the many of you who ask about my future I just want to say that I really want to stay here.’

Here is what fans said following the news, with the majority backing the move given his impressive previous stint at Hillsborough…
