Sheffield Wednesday: Fans react as Jonathan Leko moves to Birmingham City

Earlier in the week it was reported that Sheffield Wednesday were battling fellow Championship side Birmingham City for Jonathan Leko. Both the clubs had bids accepted by West Bromwich Albion for the player, and many of the Owls fan base are reacting to the news that the player has decided to join the Blues.

Journalist Dom Howson tweeted out the news that Leko chose Birmingham and some fans of Wednesday are not happy, whilst others are accepting it and hoping to see the club look for alternatives soon.

The 21 year-old winger has made 55 senior appearances for the Baggies, Bristol City and Charlton, and has scored six goals whilst picking up seven assists, per Transfermarkt.

The Owls definitely need some wingers as they currently only have three players in the squad who naturally play in that position and Garry Monk will be gutted to see Wednesday lose out on the player. However the club is not helped by the fact they have a 12 point deduction and Leko choosing to move to Birmingham highlights the fact that this deduction is potentially putting players off a move to Hillsborough.

Here is what fans said following the news, with one suggesting that they aren’t too fussed as he has a ‘worse scoring record than [Atdhe] Nuhiu’ – indeed the Kosovan scored six league goals last season, one more than Leko managed.
