Sheffield Wednesday: Fans react to Howson tweet about 12-point deduction

News broke last Friday that Sheffield Wednesday were to receive a 12-point deduction at the start of the 2020/21 Championship season for breaking spending rules. Dom Howson tweeted out an update on the issue, and many of the Owls fan base are reacting to this news.

According to the journalist for Yorkshire Live, the club are not able to appeal the decision until the English Football League send them the written reasons as to why they received the deduction.

With the next Championship campaign starting on the 12th September, which is just over a month away, many of the fan base are not happy with the fact that the club have received the charge and deduction but not received the written reasons as it leaves them uncertain about whether they will be able to appeal the decision before the season starts.

question mark

How many career goals did David Hirst score for Wednesday?

The misconduct charge was received due to the fact that Wednesday sold Hillsborough stadium to chairman Dejphon Chansiri and it was then included in the 2018 accounts when it was sold a year later, per Examiner Live.

This charge was received in November and it has taken until August for the club to find out its fate, so it is understandable to see why fans are aggrieved over this latest update.

Here is what they had to say following the news:

Told #SWFC have yet to receive the written reasons over their 12-point deduction.

As soon as the club get the written reasons, they will then have 14 days to decide whether to appeal the independent disciplinary commission's verdict.

Based on the timeline so far, #swfc will get this in May 2021 and appeal. Then a final decision will occur in fall 2021 meaning that any point deduction will actually apply to the 2021-2022 season!

I don’t k now ins and outs, but if efl thought there was a case to start with, OK 1 got thrown out, but then an Independant body also still found us guilty of the other charge, so what’s to appeal?

— Daniel Gardiner (@gardiner1985) August 3, 2020

Surely reasons should have been provided when made public by EFL?

— Jordan Leigh (@Jordrl66) August 3, 2020

Don’t you think it’s an absolute joke Dom? You can’t give us a 12 point deduction and not tell us why?

— Danny Gee (@dannygeez23) August 3, 2020

Looks very unprofessional by the efl Broadcasting a points deduction on the MSM before informing the club privately first

Unprofessional from the tribunal. Surely this is already available so to make it drag on is sure to fuel the conspiracy theories…
