‘Shots fired’ - Liverpool fans react on Twitter after Klopp’s comments on Sir Alex Ferguson

Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to comments made by Jurgen Klopp. Klopp, whilst speaking to Gabby Logan on The BBC Premier League Show (Via The Irish Mirror), claimed that the game has changed so much that he won’t still be managing when he’s 70 like Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger. He also claimed that the first 15 years of their reigns would have been “like a holiday” compared to the last 15 years considering the changes to football.

Even the most optimistic Liverpool fans who are keeping our bar afloat don’t expect to see Klopp’s exuberant celebrations on the Anfield touchlines in 20 years time. That’s not down to his ability, as the German has shown himself to be a very successful manager in his time at Liverpool, helping the club to two major finals, but down to the way football has changed.

Klopp himself has said, as he detailed the way the game has changed, with stress and pressure being ramped up on those in the managerial hot seat in a much different way to how it was in the 80’s and the 90’s. Considering the drastic changes to the game, it’s more impressive that managers with tenures at one club as long as Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson have managed to keep their jobs.
