‘Should follow Wenger out the door’ - Arsenal fans on Twitter react to manager reports

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to a story from Sky Sports that claims Ivan Gazidis wants former Arsenal player and current Manchester City assistant coach, Mikel Arteta, to be the next Arsenal manager. Arteta is just one of a number of names who have been linked with the Arsenal job when Arsene Wenger walks away from the club after 22 years in charge this summer.

Arsenal's chief executive Ivan Gazidis believes Mikel Arteta could be the man to replace Arsene Wenger, Sky Sports News understands.

The 36-year-old Spaniard played 150 games for Arsenal, scoring 16 goals between 2011 and 2016 before he retired from football to take up a job as Pep Guardiola’s assistant coach at Manchester City. Now though, after two years of being Guardiola’s second in command, he could be set for his first job as a manager at the club he spent five years playing for.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of different managers across Europe. Massimiliano Allegri, Brendan Rodgers, Carlo Ancelotti, Joachim Lowe and Patrick Vieira have all been heavily linked with the vacant Arsenal hot seat in the summer, and whoever does take the reigns of the club has a big job on their hands as they look to rebuild the club after Wenger departs. Arsenal haven’t won a league title since they went invincible in the 2003/04 season and although they’ve won three FA Cup’s in the last four years, the fans have wanted to see change for a while.
